Essential Standard: Each student will design and conduct investigations, analyze data to draw conclusions, communicate findings using appropriate methodology/technology, and identify how science and technology impact society.

  1. A Illustrate and describe the flow of energy within a food web and predict how the flow of energy will be altered due to changes.

  2. Explain each level of ecological organization.

  3. Evaluate the different types of symbiosis and the effect on the organisms involved.

  4. Evaluate the types of and limits to population growth including both abiotic and biotic factors.

  5. Explain the processes involved and importance of biogeochemical cycles.

  6. Explain how the conservation of biodiversity supports and enhances life on Earth.

  7. Analyze potential causes for the loss of biodiversity

  8. Distinguish between primary and secondary succession.

  9. Explain the causes and predict the consequences of climate change. 

  10. Describe the consequence of accidental or intentional introduction of an invasive species on an ecosystem. 

  11. Describe and compare the characteristics of the major land biomes.

  12. Define niche and explain why two organisms cannot occupy the same niche. 

  13. Outline the causes and consequences of biomagnification.
