Unit 3 Cell Structure and Function

Essential Standard: Each student will understand and explain the life processes living organisms carry out in order to survive.

Learning Targets:

  1. Outline and discuss supporting evidence for cell theory

  2. Compare and contrast different types of cells (prokaryote vs. eukaryote and plant vs. animal)

  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the structure of the various types of cells

  4. Describe the function of the organelles found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells

  5. Explain why cells in multicellular organisms perform specialized tasks

  6. Explain the levels of organization within multicellular organisms

  7. Explain the movement of molecules through different types of passive and active transport

  8. Predict the movement of molecules across a selectively permeable membrane based on polarity, size, and concentration gradient
