Unit 5 - DNA

Essential Standard: Each student will be able to demonstrate that there is a genetic basis for the transfer of biological characteristics from one generation to the next through reproductive processes.

  1. Understand all cells contain DNA that code for proteins, which direct cell processes and are expressed as the heritable characteristics.

  2. Explain how the structure of DNA allows for replication, transcription, and translation.

  3. Demonstrate how a gene directs the production of a protein.

  4. Predict the effect of DNA mutations and identify factors that may cause mutations.

  5. Describe the structure of a normal chromosome and the types of chromosomal mutations.
